Filling in the Vases and Picture Frames

Step 1: Fill in the vases using different blackwork designs.  (using the pattern that I’ve designed, or use any of the designs provided in the Steady Thread weekly patterns for 2020 or 2021.  You could also design your own patterns! (use graph paper or excel to chart your design)

Step 2: Add a filling stitch to the picture frame outline.  I filled the frame with an overlapped cross stitch over 4 threads in a variegated floss (I used brown).  You get a braided look that resembles a wood texture.  You can use any stitch to fill in the frame (or leave it empty – it just depends on the look you are going for).

Tips and ideas:

Use different colours of floss for different filling designs.

Try out different types of embroidery threads – silk, DMC, overdyed sampler threads, variegated
